I’ve been at home sick for the last two days. I really like my job, and I especially love the location of my office, which is next door to a shopping centre. To make myself feel a bit better, I prescribed myself some retail therapy and went online shopping at Old Navy Canada. Today, the online-only deal is an extra 30% off your entire purchase. (Use Promo code ONCHEER at checkout.) There are two in-store sales advertised in the colour insert from the weekend newspaper. One is, “Buy $40 in gift cards and receive 15% off”, the other is “$10 off any purchase of $50 or more”, which works out to be 25% off. Sometimes the 25% off is a better deal because the store prices could be lower than online and you can get a stamp on your customer rewards card with every purchase.
But I wanted to take advantage of the additional 10x Air Miles offer through airmilesshops.ca, which ends on December 8, 2011, and I charged my purchase to my American Express Platinum Air Miles card. However, I slightly miscalculated my purchase. (Proof that I’m sick…cut me some slack!) The total ended up being just over $60 but I needed it to be $60 before taxes to maximize the 10x Bonus Air Miles.
Here is the breakdown of my purchase:
1 mile/$20 spent at airmilesshops.ca = 2 miles
10x bonus = 20 miles
1 mile/$15 charged to AMEX = 4 miles
Total Air Miles earned: 26
I only need to spend $40 more to receive a $25 gift card from American Express since Old Navy Canada is one of the participating online retailers of their special offer!
