Living the high life, at the lowest price

Coles bookstore additional 75% off

March 30, 2012 by Fay 2 Comments

I found out this week that Coles bookstore in the Scarborough Town Centre (Ontario) will be closing on April 7, 2012. All purple-stickered “Bargain Books” are an additional 75% off the lowest ticketed price. I did not see any advertisements for this sale, so this was purely a case of being in the right place at the right time. However, the excitement over scoring this deal was slightly dampened when I learned from the cashier that all the employees of this particular location, other than management, have been let go.

I paid $25 for $100 worth of clearance books, not to mention that they were already deeply discounted to begin with. I regret not buying Bob McKenzie’s Hockey Dad: True Confessions Of A (Crazy) Hockey Parent. It was stickered $2, meaning the final price would have been $0.50!  Chapters/Indigo/Coles also has a free points card. If you don’t have a “plum rewards” card already, you can sign up for one at the checkout. You receive 10 points for every dollar spent in-store and a 5% discount if you make online purchases at Indigo.ca.

I won’t bore you with the entire list of what I bought but these are a few of the noteworthy titles found in my extremely heavy shopping bags:

  • Bonnie Stern’s Friday Night Dinners $2.50
  • Rebecca Eckler paperbacks (author of Knocked Up) Wiped! and Toddlers Gone Wild $1.25 each
  • Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel Lap Board Book  $1.25
  • Disney Beauty and the Beast Look and Find (a Where’s Waldo type book) $1.25

Most expensive items:

  • Folded Flower Origami (included 100 sheets of origami paper and an instruction book) $3.25
  • The Great Mathematicians $3.25 (Yes, I know how geeky that sounds.)

Cheapest item:

  • Jughead Comics (1970-1979) on DVD-ROM.  After discounts I paid $0.31!

All sales are final, but I’ve never had to return a book before. Happy shopping!
