Springtime in Paris?

March 22, 2012 by Fay 4 Comments

Okay, it wasn’t Paris but Tuesday was the first day of spring and what a glorious day it was! With it being the very first Macaron Day in Toronto, please humour me. A title of “Springtime in Scarborough” simply doesn’t have the same ring.

As you recall, I was very excited about buying macarons and supporting the Red Door Family Shelter. My friends and I set off to find a convenient location in the city’s east end and armed with a Google map, we ended up at J’Adore Cakes Co., a cute little shop on the Danforth where we met the talented owner, Isabelle, and her lovely mother.

 Pretty fancy, n’est-ce pas?

It was a small, but visually stunning store displaying beautiful designer wedding cakes, croquembouches made of macarons and cupcake bouquets!

The cake to the far left is featured on the front cover of a wedding magazine. J’Adore cakes were also featured the very next day during the wedding segment on Canada AM.

In behind the cakes is the panini press. (Yes, of course we tried the sandwiches! I had the Croque Monsieur.)

But here is the reason we were there in the first place:

This is a photo of John’s macarons. Because unfortunately, I picked all the beige-coloured ones.

What a fantastic way to kick off Spring 2012!

A delightful writeup complete with colour pictures! What a way to spend the first day of Spring. I hope they tasted as good as they looked. Where the beige ones chocolate?

There was chocolate, peanut chocolate, praline, apple spice and cappuccino, among others.

Honestly, Lora, it was like a dream being in the patisserie. At least for the moment you really could forget that you were in Scarborough. Next time I go I plan to try a croissant. I bet they use butter and not lard like the grocery store!
