Mother’s Day is next Sunday, May 13. If you haven’t already purchased a gift for the moms in your life, consider a Kobo eReader! Yes, your mother will probably grumble that you can’t replace books printed on paper, but it won’t take too much convincing once she starts using this device.
Here are some advantages of a Kobo eReader:
- It’s small and portable, which is great for reading on public transit or going on vacation.
- Arthritis sufferers will find that it’s lighter to hold than a regular book and easier to turn the pages with the tap of a finger.
- Any book can be turned into large print format by changing the font size.
- If you buy a Kobo eReader with built-in Wi-Fi, you can purchase eBooks from the Kobo store without a computer.
- You can access thousands of free eBooks through OverDrive and your public library system. Check here for participating libraries. Chances are extremely high that you have access already. All you need is a valid library card, a personal computer and an Internet connection. These titles can then be loaded onto the eReader using Adobe Digital Editions. (If anyone is interested, I will write a separate post with step-by-step instructions on how to do this.)
There are a couple of great deals available in Canada for the Kobo eReader Touch with Wi-Fi, just in time for Mother’s Day. These stores are all offering this model for $99 plus free shipping and the following incentives:
Future Shop: For an additional $10, receive a case with a nightlight. (Note: I saw the same deal offered on The Shopping Channel for $99, making it $10 cheaper than Future Shop.)
Best Buy – Receive a free eBook with purchase: The Vow by Kim and Krickitt Carpenter with Dana Wilkerson
Chapters/Indigo – Receive 2 free eBooks with purchase: Already Home by Susan Mallery and The Goodbye Quilt by Susan Wigg
I still go to the library but I have to admit that I’ve been reading more library books with the Kobo eReader. By taking away the risk of incurring overdue fines (by expiring the digital license automatically), I can relax and enjoy the book!
