Update: Toronto’s war on plastic bags

June 5, 2012 by Fay 1 Comment

I complained recently that the plastic bag fee in Toronto probably wouldn’t be abolished due to the left-wingers on city council. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Because instead of the bag fee, they now want to ban plastic bags entirely. Councillor Anthony Perruzza, who represents York West-Ward 8, will make the motion at tomorrow’s (June 6) city council meeting. I wonder if he wants the spools of plastic produce bags removed as well. There would definitely be negative economic effects as a result. Shopkeepers are already having a difficult time fending off shoplifters and plastic bag manufacturers will lose their businesses. Someone, please stop this insanity! Mayor Rob Ford, are you listening?

I promised updates on the plastic bag topic and I will continue to bring you the latest news. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
