My real-life friends often ask me why I prefer Twitter over Facebook. I try to explain to them how you can connect with like-minded people and actually build friendships. They think I am just plain weird. Why would I want to connect with strangers when I know everyone on Facebook? This tweet sums it up:
Stop “friending” me: Twitter is for people I like but don’t know. Facebook is for people I know but don’t like.

I think I’ve chatted more to complete strangers on Twitter than some of my Facebook friends. Seriously, why bother friending me if you’re going to ignore me like you did in high school?
Last night, I participated in a Schneiders Twitter party hosted by @SassyModernMom, @Listen2Lena, and @MyChaos, three of Canada’s top bloggers. (Yes, the same Lena that I gushed about in a previous post.) The topic and hashtag was #BBQTraditions, and barbecque guru Ted Reader was also online to answer questions.
How else could you ask an expert for food advice?

I don’t participate in Twitter parties too often but when I do , I have a fabulous time. A Twitter party or “Twarty” is a great opportunity to chat with people, gain followers and learn something new, all in the comfort of your own home. And in this case, by submitting an RSVP to the hosts in advance, you could qualify to win a prize. I was lucky enough to win $90 in Schneiders coupons! How awesome is that?
If you’re already on Twitter, follow me @cdncheapo and send me a tweet!
