In my last post, I detailed how I collected a whopping amount of Air Miles in one shopping trip at Metro grocery store. Since Thursday is the last day for the flyer sales, and I was well under my food budget, I decided to go back to the store. The items that I was looking for were the Value pack chicken breasts and the Lactanctia Smart Growth milk. The gentleman from the meat department encouraged me to ask for a rain check at customer service because they were completely sold out of the chicken and the next shipment wouldn’t be until tomorrow. However, the price would not be the same as today, which happened to be $1.88/lb. Since they were sold out of the milk as well, I wanted a rain check for both items. For those of you who have never heard of this term, it refers to a voucher that allows a customer to buy an out of stock item at the advertised sale price at a later date when the item is available. If you shop early in the week, you may be told that the item will be restocked later and no rain check will be issued. That’s why sometimes I deliberately go to a store on Thursday so that I can capitalize on a sale one last time or “defer” the sale price if possible. Note: Discount food chains do not offer rain checks. If in doubt, read the small print at the bottom of the flyer’s back page.
After I requested and received my rain checks at the customer service department, I realized that there was a spot on the bottom for Air Miles information, including the PLU (price look up or cashier code) for entering bonus miles…could it be true?
I asked if the rain check included the 5 bonus Air Miles per bag of milk purchased. Without hesitation, the woman said, “No”. I politely asked what the Bonus points section referred to. She looked at the slip of paper again, then grudgingly wrote down “Bonus 5” and grumbled, “I guess you can have them.” She shoots, she scores!
WOW! I honestly need to start asking for rain checks. I can’t count the number of times the on-sale chicken breasts have been sold out! Thanks for the reminder!
I stock up and freeze them. Regular priced meat will destroy your grocery budget.
