I was upset the other day because shots were fired on a TTC bus at Scarborough Centre station and the suspect most likely ran into the Scarborough Town Centre to hide. I was annoyed that this creep was potentially breathing the same air as shoppers.
So when the news broke last night that a shooting occurred inside the Toronto Eaton Centre, I was downright freaked out. I’ve had this sick feeling before, years ago when a young girl named Jane Creba was shot and killed while Boxing Day shopping on Yonge Street, about half a block away from the Eaton Centre. While any shooting in the city is upsetting, when the victims are simply innocent bystanders doing the very things that I love to do, it is downright unsettling. Since when did shopping and eating in a mall in broad daylight become fair game for gang turf wars? The chaos that erupted in the Urban Eatery food court last night was a real-life horror show, something that no one should ever have to endure. I truly hope that the police can quickly apprehend the coward who inflicted this terror and that he will be appropriately punished.
