For months I ignored the numerous Facebook requests to try the game Candy Crush Saga. One day, curiosity got the better of me and I got hooked!
The first few levels are relatively easy but once you get past the beginner levels, you need a lot of lives to complete the challenges, and the game only issues 1 free life every half an hour to a maximum of 5 lives. In order to continue playing, you need to harass your Facebook friends to get more free lives or purchase them at a cost of $0.99 for 3 lives.
However, you already know that I’m too cheap to pay in order to play a game and I don’t want to lose my Facebook friends by annoying them. By fiddling around on my iPad mini, I discovered that it’s easy to replenish your lives although it requires being anti-social.
First, I downloaded the Candy Crush Saga app for free from the iTunes Store. Do not connect using Facebook and play the game as usual.
After you deplete your lives, go to Settings and change the date to the following day. Switch back to Candy Crush Saga and verify that the lives say “5 Full”. Immediately switch back to the correct date in Settings. You can do this repeatedly, which is great for conquering a difficult level.
In Facebook, at the end of an episode, you need tickets to keep playing. If you play offline and disconnected from Facebook, you can play 3 “Mystery Quests” to unlock the next episode. These mystery quests are a replay of previous levels and you can only do one per 24 hour period. By changing the date like I just explained, you can unlock the next set of levels immediately after you complete the quests. I verified that this trick works on all iOS devices. Oh. My. God. This is awesome… or a curse! I’ve always waited the half hour for more lives. Its addictive. Can’t get past level 201 at the moment. Although somehow the game always senses when you are going to give up then you miraculously pass the level…
Oh great…now that you know my secret I’ll never catch up to you. I’m on level 199 after spending about a week and a half stuck on level 197.
This is amazing even though I am still stuck on level 197, I am able to keep playing until I give up. I have the new Nexus 7 android tablet and would like to confirm that this works!
