Through my association with the Henkel Insiders group, I was lucky to receive an opportunity to test and review Purex laundry detergent plus Oxi and Zout stain removers. I’ve used Purex detergent in the past because it’s one of the most affordable products on the market, but I usually have to use a stain remover as well. (I can’t blame the kids, I’m a sloppy mama.)
I decided to use a load of socks for my testing. I held my nose and picked out two pairs of socks that could easily be identified after washing.

The pair on the left has unidentified black sticky spots. The pair on the right has a purple stain where I accidentally stomped on a blueberry.
I have to be completely honest…I missed a step in the testing process. I was supposed to have used the Purex plus Oxi and Zout stain removers as a pre-treatment, ie. rub some of it into the stain before throwing it into the washing machine. I didn’t do that, but I was still pleased with the results. I can’t describe the scent, but it’s fresh without being overpowering.
Now here’s the fun part: You have two chances to win with Purex! Purex is offering a $500 grand prize and 50 second prizes of a free bottle of Purex plus Oxi in their Bid Adieu to Stains contest, which closes on September 19, 2013. Click my exclusive link to enter for your chance to win.

Hey Fay,
I don’t know if you have tried this. It is something I found out about. Make your own laundry detergent on the cheap!
1 bar Linda laundry soap (if you cannot find this, try Ivory)
1/2 cup borax
1/2 cup washing soda
Pour the borax and washing soda into a large container.
Grate the bar of soap.
Add the soap into the large container, and combine the ingredients.
Use only 1-2 tablespoon per load.
You still may need to use a stain remover, but it does work well, in both front and top load machines!
Thanks for the tip, but isn’t it less work to enter the contest and win free detergent? 😉
True, so true. But I am slow and I missed the closing date. 3 kids in 3 different schools and age really affects my mind.
Only half the contest closed. You’ve got two days left to win free detergent and your chances are good!
My biggest challenge is grass stains.. My kids are always getting grass stains
